People who say they can't find good service haven't been to
Bloomingdale's. We hear from customers every day who are thrilled with the service they receive in our stores. In some cases, they write to comment on the friendliness and attention to detail exhibited day-in and day-out by our sales associates. In other cases, they tell us about exceptional experiences in which our associates have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Clearly, a focus on the customer — and our ability to work as a team to satisfy customer needs — lead to our success.
Letters and e-mails from customers are important because they let us know how we're doing. They also help us to recognize and reward specific sales associates and managers.
We've gone through our fan mail to select a few stories that illustrate the types of compliments we receive. They are reprinted here in the customer's own words...
"I recently visited your Short Hills (NJ) store while visiting relatives. I went to purchase a wedding gift from your china department. I want to tell you about the woman who helped me pick out a magnificent gift. Her name is Gerri. I have never had such service and help while having no idea what I was going to purchase. She took her time and gave me such wonderful ideas and made the gift I purchased a huge success with the bride and groom. I compliment you for such a wonderful staff member. I know the next trip I make up north, I will make it a point to get back to Bloomingdale's."

"I wish to express my appreciation for the help and courtesy of one of your employees that made our shopping experience at Bloomingdale's memorable. In early April, we were visiting family members in the Palm Beach (FL) area. We live near Montreal, Canada, where there are no Bloomingdale's stores. After a few purchases in your store, we headed back to the parking lot, only to realize we had locked ourselves out of our rental car. We came back into Bloomingdale's (it was raining) to decide what to do next. One of your sales people, Phillis, realizing that we needed help, offered to assist us. After many phone calls, she located a locksmith who was open (this was a Sunday) and close by. She took charge in making sure he would stop by quickly, negotiated an acceptable rate for his services and made us comfortable in the meantime. We were very impressed and appreciative with Phillis' help and assistance, especially since we hadn't shopped in her department. We have mentioned our experience to many friends both in Canada and the U.S. and will not hesitate in the future to visit your stores when we travel to the U.S."

"Shopping in your furniture department is a lovely experience. John, your interior designer, has made your department very enticing to buy and explore decorating ideas with his designs on the floor and his ability to help decorate one's home with such vision. You are very lucky to have found such a bright, accommodating, talented designer. John has spent this last year designing and decorating my new home with furnishing from Bloomingdale's. I cannot begin to tell you his worth to me in this endeavor. My house is beautiful!"
