Sales Associate
"I want to continue working with people in the future - I want them to remember me and their good experience at Bloomingdale's."
You were recently recognized for your exceptional sales performance. Why do you enjoy selling and what makes it particularly rewarding on a daily basis?
I love the career I chose. Seeing my customers enjoy the merchandise is what I like most about sales. By listening to them, I can make sure I am as helpful as possible.
What abilities or personal attributes make you a great salesperson?
I like to say that I romance my customers - by smiling, talking to them, and making them feel at home in the store. We talk about everything, from family to restaurants to movies. If they are comfortable with me, they will have a better shopping experience. I try to make everyone's day the best it can be.
What do you do to build relationships with customers and why is this important to you?
Building customer loyalty is important to me. I want to continue working with people in the future - I want them to remember me and their good experience at Bloomingdale's. It's important to me that everyone is happy when they leave my store. I value making others feel comfortable. I do this by being a friend they can talk to and share stories with during their time here. This relationship is what brings customers back.
Providing consistent customer service is an ongoing challenge. How does your personal contribution and passion for the customer make your store the best it can be every day?
People can sense how much I love my job. A positive shopping environment brings business in, so I try to create that by being nice, helpful and going out of my way for others. Getting people to return to me is also important - loyalty helps the store flourish.
What are your trade secrets? Are there any "techniques" you use to help initiate and/or close a sale?
I don't have any "secrets" - my honesty and personality naturally guide me. Letting customers talk and feel comfortable is vital. I make sure to help them in any way I can.
What is your most memorable sale?
An older woman came in when I was very busy during a big sale. I don't know why, but she looked lost. I started talking to her and found out that she needed something from another department. I went out of my way to find what she wanted, and by talking to her I learned that she had just come out of major surgery. She laughed, cried, and hugged me while we were talking. There are a lot of nice customers in my store, but I will never forget her because she brought out a lot of emotion in me. I was able to help her when she was lost. Even when we are very busy, I still have time to pay close attention to customers' needs.
