I have the ability to be a good listener. I am proactive. I have good follow through. Those three things are the most important attributes. I encourage everyone to speak up and express their opinion and not to sit by silently waiting for something to happen. I think it's very important that people feel part of the team in that respect. I think that's the difference that I have made; a lot of people don't have that attitude.
 | How do you build your team to provide the best working environment? |
I try to set an example by being professional, especially with the newer graduates that are just starting out in business. I explain thoroughly to them what I expect. I set high standards for myself, and I expect the same from everyone who works for me. I think that maintaining a sense of humor is important. Also, if you sense unhappiness in your team, you need to get to the bottom of it right away.

I set the example by always explaining my thought process so my team is never out of the loop. I also set the example by being humble and not pretending to know it all and by encouraging the team to speak up and to challenge me so that it's truly a team effort.
 | In the time you've spent with Bloomingdale's by Mail, what has been your greatest accomplishment? |
My greatest accomplishment has been building successful and profitable businesses and developing a team that works so well together. Our team helps each other out and respects each other's strengths and weaknesses.
 | What would you recommend to a new manager joining the company? |
To a new manager I would say be a good listener, keep an open mind and be patient.
