Atlanta

*Page 1Page 2
It's telling that Metro Atlanta, the beacon of America's New South, is home to the region's oldest and most revered retailers, as well as some of the nation's most capable technology organizations. (Macy's, Inc.'s own operations in Metro Atlanta include the headquarters of the Macy's South division, the Macy's Systems and Technology Group, and numerous Bloomingdale's and Macy's stores, along with Macy's Logistics and Operations and Macy's Corporate Services.) This melding of old and new - of touch and tech - reflects the city itself. From the Civil War to civil rights to Olympic gold, the Atlanta region has been instrumental in America's development and its pride in achievement.

Three things might come to mind when you think of Atlanta - Coca-Cola, Ted Turner and Martin Luther King, Jr. Up close and personal, you can taste the worldly flavors of Coke at the World of Coca-Cola, watch news happen at the CNN Center, or explore the life and message of a remarkable civil rights leader.

"Hotlanta," as some would call it, is a city that makes things happen - on more than one level.

Atlanta Underground is a unique network of shops and restaurants under the busy streets of downtown. From there, it's only a short walk to Centennial Olympic Park for a lunchtime picnic. Take in the beautiful sights of the 21-acre park and learn about the 1996 Olympic Games through the commemorative monuments scattered throughout the park.

You might see Ted Turner or Whitney Houston at a Braves game in Turner Field, another venue built for the Olympics, or head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway to feel the vibration of NASCAR. The Atlanta Falcons, Hawks and Thrashers round out Metro Atlanta's diverse major-league sports scene.

The birthplace and final resting place of Martin Luther King, Jr., Atlanta's Sweet Auburn District, was a haven for African-American culture during the turbulent 60s. Go there now to visit the MLK Center for Nonviolent Change and to pay your respects at the late civil rights leader's tomb.

"My most memorable moment was when I was named to the Macy's, Inc. Star Academy in 2002. I felt such a deep gratefulness in my heart to everyone. When I looked in each person's eyes as they were congratulating me, I saw a deep appreciation and joy. They were sincerely happy for me."
