Las Vegas

Page 1*Page 2
Dance until the dawn at nightlife hotspots like celebrity-sighting dance club Pure (Caesar's Palace), Rain (The Palms), C2K (The Venetian Hotel), Club Rio (Rio Hotel), Ra (The Luxor) and Studio 54 (MGM Grand). Listen to jazz at Tres Jazz or VooDoo Lounge. Venture downtown for the Fremont Street Experience - a five-block open-air mall that is transformed at 8 p.m. into a colossal light and sound show. However you choose to spend the evening ... morning will come too soon.

And what would Vegas be without the bells and whistles of thousands of slot machines, without the poker faces of casino card dealers, without the excitement of lofty stakes at the high-rollers table. Even if you decide against "chipping in," Las Vegas casinos are nothing if not lively (great people-watching material!).

But what many visitors might not know, or ever venture beyond the casinos to find out, is that Las Vegas also offers an unusual cultural experience and a stunning natural setting. From the Las Vegas Art Museum boasting a $20 million complex and fine arts library, to the Neon Museum celebrating Vegas history with a collection of retired neon signs, to the one-and-only Liberace Museum featuring memorabilia and his glitzy million-dollar wardrobe - Vegas provides a rare opportunity to explore some of the nation's most extraordinary exhibits. And for the sports fan, Vegas is home to unique and diverse spectator events, including the National Rodeo Finals, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Racing Series, and a host of professional heavyweight matches held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena (also a popular concert venue). These are in addition, of course, to the city's college and professional sports scene, including the Las Vegas 51s (Minor League Baseball affiliate of the LA Dodgers) and UNLV athletics. And don't forget, the city is home to more than two dozen beautifully manicured golf courses - making anytime a good tee time.

Nature-lovers will also find that (where the neon ends and the desert begins) Vegas offers ample opportunity for hiking, climbing and wildlife watching. Spend some time at Valley of Fire State Park, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. And for those days when you need an escape, a few hours of open road will get you to either the Grand Canyon or Zion National Park. Within a half day you can venture to Yosemite National Park, LA, Fresno, Phoenix, or any number of fabulous West Coast beaches.

With this dizzying array of entertainment and lifestyle activities, a rapidly growing economy, and a favorable cost of living - taking a gamble on Vegas is one safe bet.
