Store Management/Buying Combined Internship

What's in it for you

This 8- to 10-week paid internship will expose you to retail management inside a Macy's store as well as buying office functions within Macy's divisional headquarters. Through the store assignment, you will explore the dynamics of the retail environment including customer service, selling, sales performance and analysis, inventory management, visual merchandising, associate development, operations and loss prevention. During the buying office assignment, you will have the unique opportunity to apply all aspects of your classroom training to real-life experiences with our expert merchant teams.

Program structure

• Course guide for each individual and coaching guide for their mentor/trainer
• Classroom instruction combined with hands-on learning. Training includes financial analysis, purchase order entry, maintenance and tracking, stock analysis, competitive shopping and professional development
• Cross-functional departmental exposures
• Final project and presentation that focuses on careers in retail

• Gain an overall perspective of the merchandising and management functions of a premier department store
• Interact in both merchandising and management to better understand how these two critical areas are related
• Analyze business trends and track sales and inventory

• Solid academic record, all majors welcome
• Ability to promote teamwork through problem-solving and managing complex relationships
• Strong communication, interpersonal and time management skills
• Ability to prioritize projects and multiple tasks to achieve productivity and business goals
• Previous retail experience is a plus
